Introduction

What is Powerful - Character or Destiny ? The votes fall apart without a common consensus . In certain character emerges all powerful while in other cases destiny plays an indomitable role making humans a plaything . In old times , destiny was character , for man was helpless , impotent in the hands of unseen chance and fate , and his rise or fall was predestined . But in modern times , man , being empowered by science and technology has got triumph over fate changing the proverb as character is destiny . Nothing is impossible for a man of character . 

Destiny as Character 

Destiny or luck or fortune is an unseen force which gets equal status with God . When he passes through misfortune , it is said to be his good luck . People say , what is destined or fated that will obviously happen . Destiny governs human life . Nobody knows destiny's plan or programme . At times good fellows suffer and guilty are rewarded . Destiny is a great player which plays with humans and takes pleasure from his suffering . 

Destiny has no fixed structures , no definite working process . Strong-minded people pooh-pooh at destiny ; but weak minded people , especially at weak moments surrender to destiny . Especially destiny's atrocities , villainy , capriciousness are best observed in adversity . You are walking on the road and got a purse with 50,000 . It is dubbed as good luck ; God's grace comes in the form of good luck . You went to a foreign city and were robbed . It is bad luck . Life is designed in such a way that bad luck prevails over good luck . Man feels restless , tortured , unhappy for this cause or that cause always and blames luck . 

Destiny has been attributed to a human character . It is personified , characterised as a villain . Man is helpless at the machination of fate . A desperate person in misfortune blames fate . Shakesperean heros have been victimised by destiny . Destiny takes them to sea , to jungle , to unknown island , make them suffer . King Lear , Othello , Macbeth , Hamlet have been punished by fate . 

Character is destiny 

In some cases the character , the individual by his tremendous deeds , application of mind , determination and preserverance can change bad luck into good luck . Such morally veteran people make their own fate , create history and turn immortal characters . Fate is subordinate to them . Fate is helpless to them . Mahatma Gandhi was born in a humble family , was a backward student , was humiliated in South Africa . But his strong will and determination , his indomitable sprit helped him fight against the mighty British force and brought freedom to India . Destiny's role in this matter is insignificant . Gandhi created history , forced his character . 

Napoleon Bonaparte said - " Impossible is a word found in the dictionary of the cowards " . He changed the fate of his country , his own fate , through excellent chivalry , will power , Swami Vivekananda , though young , though fate played with him in America , yet succeeded in creating history in the parliament of religions . Joan de Arc , a farmer's daughter changed the fate of the nation defeating the enemies . Her strong determined sprit helped her achieve such success . Fate's role in it was adverse . 

Alexander , once , just taking preparation for an invasion , an astrologer told him that his fate was against him . He asked - How did you know ? The man said - Your fate line on hand shows so . Alexander took his sword and drew the line in other direction and said - Is it correct now ? This shows Alexander's trust in himself . Karma , the son of Kunti in the Mahabharata said - fate gave me birth in a horseman's house . But i will make my own character through ' Karma ' , my action . 

Conclusion 

In antiquity when man was a plaything at the hands of nature , he easily surrendered to fate . But now a days , But now a days , man being equipped with scientific technology , has ability to change his fate as per his wish . Man himself is a great creator now . He can fly in the sky , drown in the sea , travel in space and fate has not helped him in these wonderful achievements . Thus , now character is destiny , not destiny is character .
